“As a lifelong medium with genuine psychic abilities, I have been speaking with people who have crossed over since I was 2 years old. I was too young to know that what I could do is something special that only a select few individuals are capable of doing. To me it all seemed natural because my abilities were revealed to me at such an early age.”- Christine Seebold

“My name is Kate and Night Out For You Inc. was not even a twinkle in my eye when my second diagnosis of cancer occurred in April 2015. Almost five years to the day of my first initial diagnosis of breast cancer, I learned of its re-occurrence: stage four metastatic. To say that this news completely changed how I live my life would be an understatement. It was a game changer.
I wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason, and without my diagnosis I would not have been at the oncologist’s office to meet the woman who is my inspiration for this wonderful not for profit organization. Sitting in the lobby waiting for my ride, and sick as a dog with a virus, this woman sat next to me. My first thought was, “She clearly has a death wish” as no one in their right mind would have sat next to me, sick as I was. We started talking and I learned that she was sad. She was told by her doctor, after 91 chemotherapy treatments, that her tumors were no longer responding and the next step was surgery. She was tired of being sick and scared of what the next step might bring, or not bring, to her life. So after I encouraged her repeatedly that she ‘CAN DO THIS!’, we exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch. My plan was to call or text every day with a bright note or some encouraging statement to boost her spirits and encourage her to keep on going.
The encounter resonated with me. So I sent that woman I met in my oncologist’s office, a gift card to a local restaurant so she could take herself and her daughters out for the evening on me. No strings attached, just an offering to go and enjoy herself. People who don’t feel good, who wait in fear for the return of lab results, afraid for what the next step is in their care, need a break from a diagnosis that looms like a storm cloud. This chance encounter was the twinkle in my eye that quickly grew into a spark.
I gathered my friends at my house for a lunch to pitch the idea for an organization that would offer an adult undergoing cancer treatment to a dinner out. Through the help of my friends and my husband, that idea evolved into Night Out For You Inc., which goes beyond focusing on a dinner, and offers a cancer patient an opportunity to organize their own night or day out. Through partnering with local businesses, Night Out For You Inc. plans to offer an experience that will allow adults undergoing cancer treatment to forget about their diagnosis, and be who he or she really is. We truly believe a few hours can offer hope and love in the long run.”
